The sanctuary of Pachacamac is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the central coast of the Peru, is located 31 km south of the city of Lima. It was the main sanctuary of the central coast for over a thousand years and its temples were visited by crowds of pilgrims on the great Andean ritual, Pachacamac was a successful Oracle able to predict the future and control the movements of the land. The word Pachacamac means "soul of the Earth, which animates the world". The ancient Peruvians believed that a single movement of his head would cause earthquakes. Nobody could look him directly in the eyes, and even their priests were admitted to the venue on his back. The cult of Pachacamac was the center of all coastal religion.
